Marvel Hires Writers for Dr. Strange Movie
Could it be a short film, a full-length solo movie or a Defenders film?

This morning we reported on the rumor that Marvel Studios is looking at the idea of introducing some of their lesser known characters through short films that would be attached to the theatrical releases of their blockbuster tentpole features. The plan would allow for unknown-to-the-mainstream secondary characters to debut to a large built-in audience, and Marvel could gauge response to see whether or not they want to make full-length movies for those respective characters.

Characters that come to minds of fans are the obvious choices who have popped up in interviews and speculation over the years. These include Black Panther, Dr. Strange, Iron Fist and Luke Cage, and strangely enough, one of these characters may already be on their way to getting a solo movie. Deadline is reporting that Marvel Studios has finally hired writers to pen the script for Dr. Strange!

Marvel has selected Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer to write the screenplay for the Dr. Strange adaptation and they come with plenty of recent experience. Donnelly and Oppenheimer penned the script for Marcus Nispel’s Conan which just finished production as well as the adaptation of the Uncharted video game movie. They also wrote a draft for Jon Favreau’s Cowboys and Aliens. Their experience in writing in the genres of comics, video games and epics – all involving action and some involving supernatural elements – lends itself well to a Dr. Strange story.

Some news about the Captain America movie which will feature a young Howard Stark: http://www.iwatchstuff.com/2010/05/this_guy_is_iron_mans_father.php

Wondering who would play a young Howard Stark - father of Tony (that's Iron Man!) -in that Captain America movie? Either way, I'm going to tell you. According to this Salon article, the role will be played by Dominic Cooper [Mamma Mia!, An Education, The History Boys]. He joins Chris Evans as C. America, Matrix Bad Guy [Hugo Weaving] as Red Skull, and Toby Jones as Arnim Zola, and his presence virtually assures that, at some point in The Avengers movie, Captain America will sincerely tell Iron Man, "Your father woulda been proud." You're totally going to tear up.

edited because source did not do any research on names. a+ journalism /sarcasm

Interesting that a quiet "bad boy" British actor is playing such an American renegade. Also, this info does not yet appear on Captain America: The First Avenger's IMDB page yet so could just be a rumour? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0458339/

Following on the heels of their widely viewed (SFW) "Batman XXX" porn parody trailer, Vivid Entertainment announced today that they are launching an entire superhero-themed porn imprint called Vivid-Superhero, which will parody other famous superhero characters including Marvel and DC A-listers like Superman, Spider-Man, Wonder Woman, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, and even the non-Big Two hero Green Hornet.
"The parodies under this new imprint will pay tribute to the world's most popular comic heroes," said Steven Hirsch, Founder/Co-chairman of Vivid. "[Lead Director] Axel [Braun] already started pre-production on a parody of Superman, which will be followed by those of The Green Hornet, Spider-Man, Wonder Woman, Captain America, Thor, and The Incredible Hulk. We made the decision to create the imprint after working with Axel on "Batman XXX: A Porn Parody", an Axel Braun Productions movie to be distributed by Vivid. Axel truly did an amazing job with it, and we agreed that together we could mine the really rich treasure of superheroes and have a lot of fun doing it."

While superheroes (and their costumes) have always had a certain fetish element that doesn't seem completely crazy to combine with adult entertainment -- especially if you're a fan of Greg Land comics -- Green Hornet suggests they're trying to capitalize not just on the nostalgic iconography of comics, but also their big-budget Hollywood movies in particular. All of the characters they've selected -- save Wonder Woman -- have either been adapted into major feature films or have films on the way.

Notably, they've chosen Captain America, Thor, and Green Hornet, who aren't quite as top tier as Superman or Spider-Man, but all three have films in production and slated to come out in 2011. One can only imagine that those particular porn parodies will be scheduled to coincide with the related movie releases.

After seeing the high production values on the "Batman XXX" trailer, we're a little intrigued to see if they handle a much broader and more comics-specific array of superhero subject matter as faithfully as the Batman parody appears to. And while no announcement has been made about specific names for the parodies, I'd just like to mention for the record that ComicsAlliance's Chris Sims called "Green Whorenet" months ago.

And for those who have not seen the Batman XXX trailer:

According to reports, Marvel Studios is in final negotiations with Joss Whedon ("Buffy The Vampire Slayer") as director of the Marvel Comics superhero team-up "The Avengers", scheduled for a May 4, 2012 release.

The new feature will showcase comic book characters currently featured in Marvel Studio/Paramount Pictures adaptations including actor Robert Downey Jr. ("Iron Man"), Chris Evans ("Captain America"), Chris Hemsworth ("Thor"), Samuel L. Jackson ("Nick Fury") and a whole lot more.

The team made its debut in Marvel Comics' "The Avengers #1" (Sept. 1963), created by writer-editor Stan Lee and artist/co-plotter Jack Kirby.

Labeled "Earth's Mightiest Heroes", the Avengers originally consisted of 'Ant-Man', 'Wasp', 'Thor', 'Iron Man' and 'The Hulk'.

'Captain America' joined 'The Avengers' in issue #4, with a rotating superhero roster becoming a hallmark of the team, famed for the battle cry, "Avengers Assemble!"
